Nazri shocked to discover revelations about Najib and Rosmah

Former minister Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz said he was shocked to discover the revelations about Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and his wife, Rosmah Mansor.

He said there were all sorts of exposes being made, which he was not aware of when he was in government. 

"I did not know about Rosmah's jewellery, I did not know about SRC International.

“I didn't know when I was a minister that there was money and Jho Low (fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho), it was not disclosed," he told reporters at the Parliament lobby on Tuesday (Aug 14).

Nazri, who is Padang Rengas MP, also expressed his support for investigations into 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

A series of police raids on properties-linked to Najib in June resulted in a haul of RM686.37mil, including RM116.7mil cash in 26 currencies.

Also part of the haul from the raids were 567 luxury handbags, 423 watches, 234 sunglasses and more than 10,000 pieces of jewellery, all with an estimated market value of between RM910mil and RM1.1bil. 

Najib has so far been slapped with seven criminal charges related to criminal breach of trust, bribery and money laundering related to SRC International Sdn Berhad, a subsidiary of 1MDB placed under the jurisdiction of the Finance Ministry in 2012.

Nazri said as a fellow Umno member, he had previously always taken Najib at face value.

"I was shocked. I was shocked because as a party member, even when Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was the Umno president, we did not dig into what they said," said Nazri.

He said that Umno members stuck with what was said when Dr Mahathir accused Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim of sodomy.

"Only now we know, which is why I have remained silent because I want to see what more will be exposed,” he added.

Once a fierce Dr Mahathir critic, Nazri now claims he has no issues with the second-time Prime Minister.

"I never left Umno, it is he who left. But now that he is the Prime Minister, we have to support him. I don't have a record of fighting the PM,” he said.

Nazri Aziz: BN 'as good as gone', time for it to dissolve

It is time for Barisan Nasional to dissolve, now that its Sarawak component parties have left the coalition, said Datuk Seri Nazri Abdul Aziz (pic).

The Padang Rengas MP told The Sun Daily that Barisan was "as good as gone" and said bold changes were needed.

"It might be a good thing to dissolve BN now and have Umno go it alone in peninsular Malaysia," Nazri said.

He said there is no coming back for Barisan, especially after MCA, MIC and Gerakan were defeated on May 9.

"BN is no longer strong like it used to be, and in times like this, we must bravely make changes or take drastic steps, similar to what the late former premier Tun Abdul Razak Hussein did after the 1969 general election," Nazri said.

He said that when the Alliance Party lost the popular vote, Abdul Razak was spurred into action and formed Barisan by joining forces with Gerakan and the People's Progressive Party.

On Tuesday (June 12), Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and the Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) announced that they were pulling out from the former ruling coalition to form a new state-based pact.

BN entered the fray for the last general elections with 13 parties, but is now left with only four (and a half) parties. 

The remaining BN members are Umno, MCA, MIC and Gerakan, while MyPPP seems to be half-in, half-out.

BN was founded in 1973, after the 1969 general elections saw the then Alliance (of Umno, MCA and MIC) suffering many defeats to the Opposition, which then included DAP, Gerakan, (then) PPP and PAS. Shortly after those elections, the May 13 racial riots occurred.

The then prime minister Tun Abdul Razak Hussein had the idea to bring national unity and stability by having Opposition parties such as Gerakan, PAS and PPP (now called MyPPP) join a grand coalition - Barisan Nasional.

But 45 years later, BN led by Razak's son, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, suffered its worst defeat ever.

Within a week after the elections, four parties in Sabah - Upko, LDP, PBS and PBRS - announced they were leaving BN.

The BN brand had become so unpopular that at one point, it was announced that Sabah Umno leaders such as Tan Sri Musa Aman were expected to leave and join PBS. Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan announced that PBS and Sabah STAR would form a new Sabah coalition, Gagasan Bersatu, to hold on to the Sabah state government.

As for MyPPP, a power struggle has been ongoing with its president M Kayveas announcing on May 19 that the party was exiting BN. However, the other supreme council members have disputed this, leaving MyPPP's status within BN in doubt.

Nazri slams former Umno ministers who are now helping Dr M

Umno supreme council member Datuk Seri Nazri Abdul Aziz (pic) has branded former Cabinet ministers who have joined in the chorus of criticism against the Government as "hypocrites".

"They are the ones who benefited most when Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was the Umno president and prime minister" he told The Star.

Nazri was referring to former international trade and industry minister Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz, former de-facto law minister Tan Sri Dr Rais Yatim, and former finance minister Tun Daim Zainuddin.

The trio were cabinet ministers during Dr Mahathir's 22-year tenure as prime minister.

Nazri also said it was not surprising that the trio had now turned against the Government, which they were previously a part of.

"They probably got nothing when Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak became prime minister. So, they are very unhappy," he said.

Nazri also questioned the trio's sincerity in campaigning alongside Pakatan Harapan.

"The irony of it now is that they are a part of the group (PKR) that was once against them.

"To me, these people are all irrelevant and are just tools for the Opposition," he added.

Earlier Thursday (May 3), a news portal reported that Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor had warned that Rafidah, Rais and Daim could be sacked from the party due to their open criticism of Barisan Nasional.

However, Tengku Adnan said that any action to be taken against the trio would be decided on a case-by-case basis as Umno is a "fair party".

Rafidah, in a Facebook posting on Tuesday (May 1), urged Malaysians to reject Umno and hand over the mandate to rule the country to Pakatan Harapan.

Rais, on Monday (April 30), had also criticised the Election Commission for removing Dr Mahathir's image from Opposition billboards.

Daim is also campaigning for the Opposition, urging Malaysians to vote for Pakatan.

Nazri: PPBM a mosquito party, deregistration means nothing

Datuk Seri Nazri Abdul Aziz believes the temporary deregistration of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) would not affect Barisan Nasional (BN) in any way, likening the party to a mere mosquito bite. "I don't think it's going to affect us in any way. Suspended or not, or whether or not it's good for us (Barisan Nasional), I think voters have decided and they know who to vote," the Tourism and Culture Minister said when asked if he believed the deregistration would benefit BN.

He told this to a press conference after launching the Malaysia Smart Tourism 4.0 powered by Tencent, here, today.

The Registrar of Societies (Ros) announced today that PPBM would be temporarily deregistered as a political party under Section 14(5) of the Societies Act for failing to furnish certain particulars to the association.

Commenting further on the matter, Nazri said the dissolution of PPBM was all the party's own doing, and that RoS has every right to take such action, adding that he would have preferred to defeat the Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad-led party at the polls.

"Certainly we don't want to win by default, in the sense that they are being declared as void. We want to win a fair and strong fight," he said.

"PPBM's constitution was formulated by the same people who created the party. Nobody forced them to put anything in the constitution except themselves.

"RoS didn't ask you to include any requirement except if you agree to. If PPBM doesn't comply with their constitution, then they cannot be a legal party. u have to follow the law," he said.

No Malay tsunami, says Nazri

A Malay tsunami is unlikely to happen in the general election as Malay votes are now divided and no one can obtain a two-thirds majority, says Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz.

The Tourism and Culture Minister, who is also Umno supreme council member, said no coalition could sweep two-thirds of the seats after the 2008 general election.

“The coalition that wins 112 parliamentary seats can form the government,” he was quoted as saying in Sin Chew Daily.

Speaking to the media after opening a culture and arts event at Padang Rengas yesterday, Nazri said the notion of a Malay tsunami was only a ploy by the DAP.

On the issue of redelineation of electoral boundaries, Nazri said he disagreed with comments that shifting Malay voters would work in Umno’s favour.

Using Bukit Aman police headquarters as example, Nazri said even though it now fell under Opposition-held Lembah Pantai, it was uncertain if all policemen would support Barisan Nasional or not.

He said many retired policemen and soldiers were not Barisan supporters.

“Shifting Malay voters for the benefit of Barisan? Malays can choose among PAS, Parti Amanah Negara and PKR,” he said.

“Malays are now divided by four or five parties.”

MCMC orders Raja Petra to remove Kuok articles

Blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin was instructed by the Malaysian Communica-tions and Multimedia Commis-sion (MCMC) to remove his articles on billionaire Robert Kuok by 10am today.

In an e-mail sent to Raja Petra yesterday, MCMC instructed him to remove the three articles on Kuok, “Robert Kuak wants Chinese rule in Malaysia”, “Malaysian Insight fun­der fingered”, and “Robert Kuok’s last chance at changing the Govern­ment”, from his Malaysian Today site.

MCMC said in the e-mail, which Raja Petra published on the site, that the articles contravened Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

“As such, your site needs to delete the articles before 10am (Malaysian time) on Tuesday, March 6, 2018,” it said.

The articles were removed by yesterday afternoon.

In his articles, Raja Petra claimed the 94-year-old was funding DAP in order to topple the Barisan Nasional government, an allegation that both Kuok and DAP have refuted.

Raja Petra also alleged that Kuok was funding the news portal The Malaysian Insight.

The claims have led to outrage among several personalities in Umno, most notably Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz.

Heng was asked to comment on the ongoing public spat between the Umno supreme council member and MCA that has dragged through the past week.

On Wednesday (Feb 28), Nazri claimed that DAP is "the voice" of Malaysia's Chinese community.

Nazri had earlier criticised billionaire Robert Kuok by calling him a "pondan" (effeminate) and said that Kuok should be stripped of his Malaysian citizenship after blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin alleged that the tycoon was funding various political parties to overthrow the Government.

Heng said it is as if Nazri, as a Barisan leader, is giving the mandate to DAP by lifting them up to insult MCA.

"He claimed that he was angry with Padang Rengas MCA for sabotaging his campaign in the previous election, but political sabotage is not new. I have experienced it and many have too, but no one has done what he did by openly criticising and attacking another component party," she said.

While expressing her support to the party's stance in demanding an apology from Nazri, Heng said the man should know what needs to be done when a mistake has been made without being told what to do.

"As a senior Cabinet Minister, as an adult, he should know what to do and put this to bed in a responsible manner," she said.
